Numerical Study and Theoretical Comparison of Outlet Hole Geometry for a Gravitational Vortex Turbine

The gravitational water vortex turbine is an alternative to renewable energies, it transforms the hydrokinetic energy of rivers into electric and does not require a reservoir. According studies carried out, hydraulic efficiency can increase or decrease according geometrical configuration. This paper presents numerical (CFD) analytical comparison between conical cylindrical designs for outlet. results show higher performance geometry than tank. fluid behavior in CFD tangential velocity near air core outlet hole (similar behavior). maximum theoretical power generated was 167 W 150 design respectively. differences geometries holes using models were 11 7%, However, closest model had different values 31 29% design, furthest result regarding study 55%. principal difference due tank geometry, change discharge zone, as well ratio diameter make stronger more stable formation. good parameter select height place rotor.
